Veneers Q & A

What is a veneer?

Veneers are very thin covers that are applied to the front surfaces of teeth to help correct many different kinds of cosmetic issues, such as:

  • gaps between teeth

  • teeth that are crooked

  • stained or discolored teeth

  • teeth that are chipped, cracked or broken

  • teeth that appear too small

How are veneers applied to teeth?

Veneers require two office visits for application. At your first visit, we'll prepare your tooth by removing a very small portion of tooth material from the tooth surface. This helps “make room” for the veneer so it doesn't extend beyond the surfaces of the teeth on either side. An impression will be taken of the tooth and sent to a lab where the veneer will be made. A temporary veneer can be made and applied to the tooth to protect it while the permanent veneer is being crafted. At the second visit, the temporary veneer will be removed and the permanent veneer will be adhered.

Will my veneers look natural?

Yes; at Design Dental Spa, we use state-of-the-art techniques to ensure the most natural results, custom-tinting and shaping your veneer so it looks and feels completely natural. Plus, veneers have a translucent quality that enables some light to pass through, helping them to look just like your natural teeth.

How long will my veneers last?

Veneers are designed to be extremely durable. As long as you care for them properly with regular brushing and flossing and visit the dentist regularly to ensure they remain in good shape, you can expect your veneers to last for a decade or more. It's also a good idea to avoid chewing on ice or hard candy to prevent chipping your veneers (as well as your own natural teeth).
